conducted more than 4000 mediations in the past 25 years., 12 years ago I added arbitration and in the last 10 years I also trained in investigations and workplace restoration. I have supervised over 100 students for their accreditation . I mediate employment, personal injury, construction, estate and child protection cases.

Professional Background

I am currently completing my Psy.D , while working fulltime. In 2005 I graduated with my Masters degree in law specializing in Mediation from Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to this I had pursued my undergraduate degree at York U, My Masters  at Norwich  U in Vermont and my  doctoral studies at CCU all in psychology. I also completed  the 180 hour training for the certificate in Mediation from York U, the Advanced Certificate in Mediation Windsor U , as well as child protection training from Seneca college, Arbitration and ombudsman training From Osgoode and Workplace restoration training From the workplace fairness institute

Mediation Experience

Mediating full time since 1991  I have conducted approximately 200 matters per year for a grand total of in excess of 4000 mediations. !4 years ago I added arbitration to my practice and have also presided over a few hundred matters. Approximately 5 years ago I trained in investigating and workplace restoration and have also added these skills to my toolbox. I teach a few courses in negotiation and advanced mediation as well as supervising  interns for the Q. and C Med designations.  I am one of 12 specialized child protection mediators and also specialize in employment, personal injury, estate , construction and malpractice

Mediation Approach & Philosophy

Every mediation needs to be approached from an independent individualisitic perspective. Just as someone embarking on a journey would have to decide on the appropriate route and mode of transportation, in as much as if potentially the destination can be accessed by train, plane, bus, or driving decisions would have to be made with respect to which route is most convenient, most cost effective, is the safest, prior to embarking, each mediation must be viewed through these and other lenses prior to a decision being made as to whether the approach should be transformative, evaluative, collaborative, narrative, or facilitative. In my more than 25 years, I ahve found in the thousands of matters I ahve done, this approach has garnered me a 91% settlement rate.

Complex Case Experience

I have worked with many complex cases. One involving a suit for $174,000,000 in which there were 23 counsel, each representing a separate dhead of damages and several of whom were spread out between 3 different countries (Canada, US, England). COnsiderations included time differences for scheudling purposes, the legal interpretation and case law statutes in each of these countries, and the wording of each separate contract to determine the obligation that the party had agreed to. I'm happy to say this matter resolved. 
Although this case is an extreme, I have done many matters that ahave been complex, and involve cultural and langauge differences as well.

Fees

$400/hour is my standard rate for mediation. This fee applies for prep time as well. In arbitration matter, this fee applies to any time spent considering the merits of cases.

Other Information

I have been practicing mediation full time before it even became in vogue. HAving completed in excess of 4000 mediations, My approach is very effective. I also teach Advanced Mediation at York University, as well as the Lawyers as Negotiator for 3rd year Law Students at Osgoode Hall Law School, and have supervised students both at the Small Claims Court and more than 100 interns at my practice, all of whom have achieved their Q.Med, and some the C. Med, designations. I am currently in the process of authoring a book called Footsteps Between the Rooms, which details the process entailed in converting the parties positions into a language that can be comprehended by the other side, and therefore faciltating the mediation process.
