Professionele achtergrond

Joanne Law is an accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, NMAS Accredited Mediator, New Ways for Families Coach, Life, Business and Excecutive NLP Coach and professional trainer.  

She works with families and people in workplaces to provide interventions when they are caught up in disputes and conflict. She works as a mediator and/or as a Pre-mediation / Interpersonal Skills Coach to support people to develop their negotiation skills. 

Her specialty is working with higher conflict cases using Video Meeting technology to manage risk and increase convenience for her clients. She is also a trainer and assessor for Mediators and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners and has mentored many mediators as a co-mediator and trainer for Mediation Institute which she founded in 2013. 

In 2015 she established the not-for-profit Interact Support to help people who are falling between the gaps in the family law system to resolve their issues, protect their children from their conflict and help them to find peace in their interpersonal relationships with their co-parents.

Ervaring met mediation

Joanne has been a professional mediator since 2013. 

She works as an independent professional and with Interact support providing family dispute resolution services. 

Her experience is primarily in family law mediation and workplace mediation with some experience in community and education mediation facilitation. She is also a Certified Family Group Conference Facilitator. 

She has co-authored the Mediation Skills Primer Mediation and Communication Skills Manual and written and delivered training in dispute resolution.

Mediation Aanpak & Filosofie

Joanne Law is a strong supporter of self-determination by clients. After all they are the ones who have to live with the resolution. She works cooperatively with lawyers to ensure that clients are informed about their legal rights and responsibilities but only uses lawyer assisted mediation for very vulnerable clients. This is because resolving disputes isn't just about legal rights, it is about what matters to the people involved. I see mediation as an intervention that has the potential to shift the relationship dynamic away from unresolved disputes and conflict towards one where issues are able to be resolved and conflict avoided in the future.

Complexe Zaak Ervaring

The main work I do is family dispute resolution with couples however I can work with family groups if their cultural or individual family situation requires family led decision making rather than parent led.  

The main complexity that I deal with is related to power imbalances and a history of family violence where I provide modified processes (Mediator Facilitated Negotiation) and Video Shuttle Mediation to ensure that issues can be resolved without fear and coercion.

Kosten

$275 per person per hour base fee. Discounted rates $198 per hour when working for the not-for-profit Interact Support with lower income earners. Hardship cases "Pay what you can now, Pay if you can later" are available through Interact Support.
